Spec-Based Selection Guide for Turret Cameras
Check physical dimensions
Camera size affects mounting options and visibility. The Ubiquiti UniFi G6 Turret 4K PoE measures 5.31 inches wide, 6.1 inches high, and 5.12 inches long. This compact form factor fits standard mounts without obstructing views. In contrast, the UniFi G6 Pro 4K Turret is significantly larger at 8 inches wide and 10 inches long. You must verify your mounting surface can support the weight. The Pro model weighs 3.25 pounds, while the standard G6 weighs 1.21 pounds. Ensure your brackets are rated for the specific weight to prevent sagging or damage over time.
Evaluate resolution needs
Resolution determines the level of detail in your footage. All listed models offer 4K resolution for sharp image clarity. This specification allows you to zoom in on digital video without losing critical details like facial features or license plates. Higher resolution requires more bandwidth and storage capacity. You should assess your network infrastructure before selecting a 4K model. The standard G6 Turret provides fixed 4K surveillance, ideal for monitoring specific entry points. The G6 Pro adds zoom capabilities, enhancing long-range monitoring. Choose based on whether you need fixed coverage or variable focus.
Assess power requirements
Power source dictates installation complexity and reliability. The UniFi G6 Turret 4K PoE uses Power over Ethernet. This method delivers both data and power through a single cable, simplifying wiring. You do not need a nearby electrical outlet for this model. This reduces clutter and potential points of failure. Check if your network switch supports PoE standards. If your existing setup lacks PoE injectors or switches, you may need additional hardware. This power method ensures consistent operation without battery changes. It is suitable for permanent outdoor installations where wired access is feasible and preferred.
Consider mounting stability
Stability ensures consistent video quality and device longevity. Heavier cameras like the UniFi G6 Pro 4K Turret require robust mounting hardware. Its 3.25-pound weight demands strong anchors to withstand wind and vibration. The lighter G6 models at 1.21 pounds offer more flexibility in bracket selection. You should match the mount strength to the camera weight. Loose mounts can cause blurring or misalignment over time. Verify that the mounting surface is solid and level. Proper installation prevents drift and maintains the intended field of view. Always follow manufacturer torque specifications to avoid stripping screws or damaging the housing.
Review color options
Color affects visual blending with your property. The UniFi G6 Turret 4K PoE is available in black, which may blend with dark structures. The G6 Pro 4K Turret comes in white, suitable for light-colored walls. The standard G6 Turret is listed as multicolour, offering variety for different aesthetics. Choose a color that minimizes visual intrusion if discretion is important. Alternatively, select a contrasting color for deterrence. The finish should also resist weathering. Check material specifications for UV resistance and durability. Proper color selection ensures the camera remains a functional tool rather than a visual distraction.
