How to Choose Your Solar Camera
Check Your Resolution Needs
Start by deciding how much detail you need in your footage. The REOLINK Argus PT offers 5MP resolution, which provides clear images for general home monitoring. If you require sharper video for identifying faces or license plates, the Argus PT Ultra and TrackMix models deliver 4K clarity. Lower resolution options like the 2K Altas Go PT are sufficient for wider area surveillance. Match the pixel count to your specific security goals without overpaying for unnecessary detail.
Match Connectivity to Site
Your internet availability dictates the camera type. If your home has strong Wi-Fi, models like the Argus PT and Argus PT Ultra work well. For remote locations without internet access, you must choose cellular options. The TrackMix LTE and Go PT Plus connect via 4G LTE networks. Ensure your remote site has adequate cellular coverage before purchasing. This step prevents connectivity issues and ensures your camera remains online and recording continuously without relying on a home network.
Select Camera Style
Decide between fixed views or adjustable angles. Pan-tilt cameras allow you to rotate the view remotely via an app. Most models in this guide, including the Argus PT and TrackMix, feature this style. This flexibility lets you cover large yards or driveways from a single point. Fixed cameras are not listed here. Choose pan-tilt if you need to monitor multiple zones or track moving subjects across a wide outdoor area without installing multiple units.
Review Storage Options
Determine how you want to save your video files. Some cameras support local storage via microSD cards, such as the Go PT Plus. Others offer cloud storage solutions for off-site backup. The Argus PT supports local storage for users who prefer keeping data on the device. Cloud options remove the need for physical card management but may involve subscription fees. Check the specific storage attributes for each model to ensure it aligns with your privacy and access preferences.
Consider Night Vision Type
Verify the type of night vision provided. Most listed cameras include standard night vision for black-and-white clarity in low light. The Argus PT, Argus PT Ultra, and TrackMix models also feature color night vision. This technology helps you identify details like clothing color at night. If color visibility is not a priority, standard infrared options suffice. Check the attributes for each unit to confirm if color night vision is included, as this impacts visibility quality after dark.
